It's not that I don't like my pool anymore, it's just a shame it's rarely used these days, but I still have to take the time and money to maintain it. Over 10 years ago, we moved to FL and we enjoyed our pool for the first 2-3 years while the kids were little, but now that they're all grown up, they rarely take a dip and have interests in other things. Between a pool down here and a basement up north, I would rather have a basement to keep cool in the summer, more people and guests enjoy it, with a pool table, foosball, ping-pong, big screen TV, jam sessions if you play music, etc., whatever fun stuff you can cram down there, rather than just sitting around wading or floating on an inflatable cushion sipping your iced tea under the hot sun, of course, unless you really take a dip in it.

Edit: But yes, if you live in FL, I would recommend a pool if you have small kids, but consider safety precautions. If you don't want the expense, just get an annual pass at one of the local waterparks, or go to the beach, may end up being less expensive in the long run.
