I am looking for an Accountant / Staff Accountant position in the Orlando area; any suggestions? (amusement park, mortgage)

Hi Have a BBA in Accounting (3.75 GPA).
Worked 2 years as an Internal Audit assistant.
Working for about a year now as a Staff & Revenue accountant for a Digital Agency.
Experience in MS GP, MS Excel, Word, Outlook, basic knowledge of Oracle and OSX.
Am interested in governmental, private, or public... Whatever is available to start.

I'm relocating and need a job asap.

Any suggestions guys?

I hate to tell you but with your experience you'll be lucky to find a job around here at all, much less one that pays enough to support a family. This area is one of the higher unemplyment areas in the country, over 10%. I hope that you have at least six months of savings, it could easily take you that long to find a job here.

You posted on the other thread about having a 3,000+ sf home with 5 TV's. annerk estimated that your monthly electric bill could top $800 a month during the summer for a similar set up.

Maybe relocating to Orlando is NOT your best option. At most of the large corporate offices that I worked in, staff accountants made between $32k and $45k.

The last time I was asked to look at salary ranges for that position in this area that's exactly what I found. Two years ago I hired an accounting manager with a brand new CPA for $45K. I doubt I'd have to pay more than that these days.

The salaries here are very low, 45K for a CPA is peanuts. At the very least a CPA should be making 60K.

I don't get why someone would move here and then take a huge cut in salary, for the money you might save in say property taxes you end up losing much more in salary.

I know someone who took a 30K cut in salary and they regret doing it big time.

I took a $30+K cut in salary, but I have other sources of income. For the average person, it's probably not the best idea.

I agree that a CPA should be making more--he wasn't a CPA when he was hired but was working towards it and got it about six months later. Thinking back he was bumped to $50K when he got the CPA designation. And that was a going rate for a CPA with only a couple years of accounting experience.

Many people take salary cuts and then end up more behind. I don't get why they don't do more research.

I have known so many people who move here to escape the cold but don't research, and these ones that ask about moving here and have no jobs lined up, don't get that at all.

They put themselves in a very bad financial position, but it doesn't snow...LOL.

Totally agree, people come here on vacation and get sucked into the Disney World dream. Leaving in Orlando is not a day at the amusement park. People do your research.....you might be surprised.

Not all of us started or are currently behind. I have no debt except a mortgage and over five years of living expenses plus income that had nothing to do with finding work in Florida.
