Also, I am from Northern Canada next to Sault Michigan so I know nothing of Florida other then what I have been told or researched on line.

One more thing...I have an infant daughter 6 months old at this time and want to know about your poisionous snakes or native insects I should be worried about.
I'm really hoping you didn't buy sight unseen and trust whoever sold it to you.

If the lawn isn't treated regularly (or even if it is) you need to be wary of fire ants. Poisonous snakes are a lot less common.

No I did not buy it sight unseen, it is a beautiful home. However, the last update I received from the real estate agent was that the lawn has not been kept up during the closing process. So fire ants may be a real possibility. What do you suggest?

Not kept up can mean a lot of things. Needs to be mowed, needs to ahve the irrigation system looked at, needs all the sod replaced, or all of the above. Fire ants are probably the least of your worries.

I want to move to Orlando, I am very confused where to live. I like the Dr.Phillips area, I don't know if I could afford it.
