Can anyone that has used PODS or a similar service advise on what they actually paid? and the move (city to city)? I hear that it's expensive (how expensive?), but just want to get ballpark estimates so I don't waste my time. TIA

We used a POD recently for our move from upstate NY to the Orlando area. It was around $2500 for the 8x8x16 POD. It holds quite a lot if you know how to pack properly.

Hiring local movers for a few hours to move stuff in and out is much cheaper than the national ones that POD can refer you to. I would recommend hiring local movers for at least the loading portion. It only cost about $200 and they usually know how to pack things so you can maximize your space. Just pack all your boxes and have them ready to go before the movers arrive.

I thought the price was very reasonable. Door to door service and they were very accommodating even when I called to change my pick up/drop off time about 3-4 times. Some towns require a permit for the POD to be dropped off on your driveway and have a limit of 48rs or 72hrs. I didn't need for them to store it, so I don't know the storage fees.

Just make sure you pack soft stuff close to the door, so you don't end up with trouble opening the door, as things tend to shift a little.Sometimes all your stuff gets pushed up against the door and jam the grooved door.

I would definitely use PODS again.
