Possibly part of the decline? Not a big part I am certain..as a total of population this is very small, and even a smaller portion of criminals for sure! but interesting to add in anyway!

And your point is?? That type of garbage is in every single city in the nation. You can find that gang activity right in your neck of the woods there in Camden in abundance...Punks over the bridge in Philly...in NYC, all major cities...it does not prove or disprove the question of whether or not the crime in Orlando is lower now than it has been in the last few years.

Yes....so we are now resorting to youtube self made videos and blogs? That blog quoted a 'crime report, issued in 2008' from the FBI. All facts which we have discussed ad nauseum on city data.

I believe the OP's question was if the rates are NOW lower...as in...2009 appears to be on pace to be half the crime rate of last year - at least the murder rate does. I, for one, cannot find any other facts that dispute that....curious if there are any out there....

And, while one single year does not a trend make, it is interesting, and positive never the less if it holds true for the year.

Murders are not the only thing that affects Orlando's crime rate. Ofcourse the report is from 2008, the 2009 numbers have yet to be released and the year is far from over. I believe with the increasing amount of gangs in the Orlando area (including violent national gangs) the crime rate will increase in 2009. The home invasions and other violent crimes are still elevated.

DailyJ brings up a reasonable point, I did find this article...It does not refer to what type of gang , but they are gang involved in home invasions and car jackings of the general public so, it's relevant and growing unfortunately. Hopefully the OC Police gang unit can make some headway.
Increase In Gang Activity Has Residents Scared - News Story - WFTV Orlando

And hopefully we will see more stories like this one where they capture many gang members and put them in jail where they belong!

every city that has taken katrina evacuees will drop its crime back to normal levels in about 2 more years. the thugs will just kill each other until there is none left to kill, same thing happened in Miami it started in 1979 then ended in about 1998, took a bit longer, but it will happen. so far 41 have been reported as of today, and i think Orlando / orange county will prob reach about 91 by the end of they year.
