Also, I've heard conflicting stories - people leave tips but mousekeeping is not allowed to accept them?

Just for planning purposes if I can't get something in the field I'm actually in if/when/before we move down there immediately, I was curious about these positions (also saw on another post annerk said Disney housekeeping was hiring).

Thanks in advance!

Current is $8/hour to start up to $12.47/hour based on tenure with the company for f/t permanant cast. I'm not sure they are hiring f/t perm right now, most people have to start as seasonal or p/t perm. I don't know if the collective bargaining agreement wages are teh same for non-f/t perm cast.

Housekeeping gratuities are not covered by the contract, and as such the company can not make the housekeepers refuse them or pool them. Not everyone tips housekeeping, I have a friend who works as a hotel housekeeper at a nicer business class hotel, and she says that about 30% of the rooms tip (she has 15 a day) and it's usually only $1-2. Her tips cover gas and lunch in the employee cafeteria, nothing more.

Here are the full-time and part-time union contracts. They tell you benefits and such as well as pay for all positions in the six STCU Unions (which includes Unite Here which covers housekeeping):
  • Full Time (http://www.uniteherelocal362.org/2007%20STCU%20Main%20Contract%20Addendums%20A%20B% 20%20STCU%20200%207.22.07.pdf - broken link)
  • Part Time (Casual Regular in Disney Terminology) (http://www.uniteherelocal362.org/12%2020%2007%20Final%20CR%20Contract%20All%20w_o%2 0Numbers%20Cover%20Pg.pdf - broken link)

Every new Cast Member I have seen lately has been Seasonal (Casual Temporary), and isn't covered by either contract; but I don't know for sure that that is the case, it's only based on people I have met. In any case it would be a foot in the door, but with winter coming up you probably would not be able to get very many hours as a seasonal. But that is different from one department to another as well, I have no idea about how many hours seasonal Cast Members can get in housekeeping in the winter.

Thank you, I'll look this over. We are actually trying to move down there by next Summer, I just want to start figuring out my options now (if that's possible (lol).

Thanks again for the info!

Just another hint if Disney doesn't pan out. I was in BJ's near Millinia Mall Saturday and they had a hiring sign out.

Thanks, I'll keep them in mind next spring/summer if nothing else is panning out. We have to start saving money here first and our lease isn't up until next May and I wouldn't break it because our landlord (lady) is a really sweet girl who's a single mom about my age with kids so I wouldn't want to do anything to get her financially strapped.

Are all CMs required to join a Union?

You live by the old Golden Rule I think, "Treat others only in ways that you want to be treated in the same exact situation."
How nice and wouldn't it be a better world if all people lived by this ethic. You are a great example to your child JustinsMama.
Kudos to you!
