Moving to Ocoee from KS and just found out State Farm doesn't write new home poicies themselves but rather through Citizens Property which I was told is actually the state.

Any thoughts on them or other auto/home insurance companies is appreciated.

Thanks - Roy

For auto insurance, I've been using Progressive and they have had the best rates and very good service. While they do not offer home owners insurance in FL, they seem to have a discount for everything and even when I compare them to some other agency where I combine auto and home, Progressive is still cheaper.

For home insurance, the nationwide companies are non-existant in Florida because people in Florida tend to actually use the service they pay for and that is a big no-no for insurance companies [/end sarcastic rant].

We got our homeowners insurance through our builder (KB Homes), but I'm pretty sure they are just ASI Insurance, but can't be certain.

Wrong. Chubb is nationwide and they write in Florida.

For both auto and home insurance I advise state fund insurance. They compared quotes for my place with companies like travelers (who I am currently with) and firemans fund etc. I moved from out of town as well and they took care of exactly what I asked for - their website is statefundins.com There quite speedy with getting back to you and I personally have an outstanding customer rep! I highly advise dropping them a line! - hope this helps

The best pricing we found was through Olympia Insurance.

thanks andy.... ironically that is who my mortgage broker is recommending...

Also, (this is our first house)... our mortgage broker recommended insuring the value of the home minus the land value... does that make sense?

Chubb is expensive, but you get what you pay for.
