Do Floridians wear typical winter clothes in "cold" months? I am from Michigan and anything over 50 degrees is warm to me. Will I look like a wierdo with my shorts on in the winter time here?

Yes, winter clothes are very commonly worn in Florida during the winter. It is also not at all unusual to see tourists dressed differently than the people who live here.

Yeah, you'll see tourists in shorts and swimming at the beach! When you live here and your blood thins out, you'll be wearing a winter coat.

You cna always tell the tourists from the locals in winter. Locals dress for the weather, tourists dress like they are in a subtropical climate, even when it's 60 degrees out.

Nope, but spend a few years down here, and expect to look like a weirdo to your friends when you visit them back in Michigan and you are all bundled up when the temps hit 50.

I havent felt the need to really wear any type of winter clothes this winter yet. I'm still in sandals/flip flops and shorts. And I'm a native.

Its was funny today because at day break this morning it was in the mid 70s outside, so most people at school dressed in short sleeved shirts and shorts thinking it was only going to get warmer as the day went on, But by about 10 or 11am a cold front pushed through bringing the temps to the low 60s upper 50s and everyone at school was complaining about how cold it was and how they wanted their pants and sweaters. Luckily some people including me were smart enough to watch the weather and brought a jacket. The point is, people here wear winter clothes a lot throughout the season, pretty much anytime the temp is under 70 you will see the majority of people wearing sweaters, light jackets, pants, etc. and when its under 60 you will see people dressed like its snowing outside.

Since I'm from the central coast of CA, where it's in the 60's most of the year, I find FL HOT most all of the time.

I've been here for 5 years altogether and I never wear a winter coat!
I do wear long pants when it gets below 60....and I have worn a sweater in the evening.

Hubby wears shorts most all the time...except for work.

Don't know if this helps, but I wouldn't worry about looking "weird".

You won't look weird...my brother lives in Pittsburgh and, although he was raised here, he's acclimated to colder climes and wears shorts and teeshirts when he's down here visiting for the holidays (and everyone else is wearing sweaters and boots)....except for maybe this year...where it's been in the mid-upper 80's in South Florida...no white Christmas for us..
