The memo was that even tho Orlando is maybe 1/10th the size of NYC..it is still required to be compared to it on a daily basis.

And NYC is the best at everything.....or so I'm told...over and over and over again.

Think about local news today compared to years ago when we were younger. It used to be about news but now they try to be more entertainment than news. There was a far greater emphasis on actual journalism in years past compared to the "news" we get today.

Better quality reporting, better on-air talent. Here the field reporters are often kids just out of college on their first assignment, and it shows while they are standing there repeating themselves over and over trying to figure out how to describe a crime scene and fill up their 30 seconds while live in the field and stammering to figure out what to say while the producer in the newsroom doesn't cut them off quickly and move on to another topic.

Can't do that because the newscasters and/or production staff aren't polished enough or fast enough on their feet to jump segments on the fly. Additionally in major markets it's rare to see the wrong footage roll or graphic put up, here it's very common. I see at least two errors per broadcast with the local news here, in NYC it's hard to find one a week.

That said, I watch the local news with my expectations set on what it is, a "B" market with "B" level newscasters reporting local news, and think that WESH does a very good job and Channel 13 is great at what they do. (In my opinion Channel 13 is also the most unbiased and least sensational of them all as well.)

And if you'll go back and read, early in this thread I said that I thought the newscasts in this area were very good for a market of this size. I'm comparing them to NYC only because someone else brought up the comparison to larger markets.

Oh, and I can't stand that bimbo in the tight clothes that does the weather.

I guess they do have technical problems more often, and there is more "fresh out of college" reporters here. But we do have talented people aswell. Overall I don't think our news channels are much worse than in larger markets. Maybe not as good as the top 2 or 3 markets, but we're on par with the rest. We are only number 19 out of 210.

And I also disagree about the fox weather lady. Not only does she look smokin, she also seems professional, I never hear her mess up. Overall I think shes a good meteorologist.

LOL, I'm surprised there hasn't been a response like..."She talks about the weather?"
