How is the Kissimmee area?

We are thinking of relocating to FL in the Orlando area. Work is from home so no work commute issues. I have seen some realtor videos on Youtube saying that Kissimmee is starting to explode with a lot of new developments and there seem to be decent deals on some homes on the market. The only thing is we stayed in a rental down 192 near there by the Walmart a few years back and it seemed like a horrible area with many homeless and a lot of shady characters. Maybe it was just because of the Walmart.

Can anyone fill me in on this area from a recent perspective?

I wouldn't recommend Kissimmee. It's not as terrible as its reputation, but it's still not a desirable area to live unless you only speak Spanish.

I have been in Kissimmee for 35 yrs and what we have is uncontrolled growth . Roads & services totally overwhelmed.Would not
recommend it . Smaller towns that surround Kissimmee are still very desirable. Kissimmee turning into a Miami . lots of people from PR

Is there anything tangible that made you choose Kissimmee over other places, other than perceived "better deals"? Since you're working from home and location isn't a concern in terms of commute, you might consider places much less lower income/blue collar which is Kissimmee's overall reputation. If looking for areas gaining new development and subsequent rapid appreciation in value check out the SE side of Sanford around Sanford/Orlando International Airport and Sorrento-Mt Plymouth near Red Tail which is going to explode once the Wekiva Parkway is completed in the very near future (and the missing link to the Orlando Beltway)

Is that considered the Lake Nona area? Wasn't there supposed to be a new highway in the Lake Nona area as well?

Lake Nona seems to be out of our price range. We are in the tough situation of where we have 2 college aged kids that are still living with us but we don't know how long. We probably want at least 3 bedrooms, because once the kids are out we still would like to have an extra room for family or friends to stay if they come visit as all of our family and friends are n the North East.

No. Lake Nona is in SE Orlando. The part of Sanford Kyle speaks of is at the other end of SR417 to the North, NE end of the Orlando Metro.
Plymouth/Sorrento is in the NW corner.

You can definitely find affordable homes in those two areas.
