I'm packing my clothes, and here in VA it gets COLD. Cold enough to need sweaters, sweatshirts, etc. Long sleeves and jeans in the early fall/early spring.

What is the weather generally like in Orlando in the winter?

Will I need my sweaters and sweatshirts? I know it was pretty cold when we were there in January, but this was a freak winter for everyone.

What is a normal winter like?

Also, do they sell winter-ish clothing in FL? Will I be able to find basic long sleeved tees and stuff like that, or is it more summery stuff all year? I feel like an idiot asking that, but here, we have 4 distinct seasons and 4 distinct types of clothes sold during those times of year...

Thanks!

You'll definitely find long sleeves, coats, jackets, sweaters, anything you'd need. I even managed to find a full down coat and complete fake fur coat in Orlando, although I only wore in it NY. Winter weather is usually in the 50's, occasionally lower and higher. It's kinda unpredictable.. sometimes it'll be way hotter or colder than the previous day.

winter weather is VeRY unpredictable here. You can't really plan for the whole season, its more of a week by week, or even day by day. But you will definitely find a great amount of winter/fall spring clothes here since some night do get pretty chilly.

You will wear long sleeve shirts, sweaters and coats here. Maybe not the first year, but after that. It maybe a brief period, but yes you still need those items of clothing here.

I noticed you are from Springfield, VA. Drove through there once and I really liked what I saw

We do sell winter clothing here. It does get cold in Florida. Temperatures vary wildly from day to day. High temps could be 85 degrees one day, and then only 60 the next. 60 for a low one day, then 35 for a low the next day

Rain is fairly frequent as well (2-3 times a week) and often times after the rain is when it will get MUCH colder.

This past winter was brutally cold (by FL standards), I dont think we had one day in January or February where the temp went above 75, most days the high was in the low 50s with a low temp around freezing

I am so glad May is almost here and we are back to being in the upper 80s just how i like it. For awhile there it felt like it would never get warm again

Keep the sweaters and sweatshirts. In winter we usually dress in layers because it warms up later in the day (usually!). There's usually a couple weeks during the winter when it's real cold and yes, this winter was brutal but I remember other winters when it was so cold the electric lines snapped and we had no heat or we had rolling blackouts. Long ago, but it can happen.

Toss boots unless you plan to trek thru woods (snakes and stuff, lol). Keep a pair or two of gloves and scarves--I did and was glad of them this year tho I really hadn't needed them. I did buy a new pair of gloves this year, and most stores do sell winter things.

Jackets and coats--up to you. If you plan to ever go back up north, you'll be glad you kept a couple. And this past winter I did need a nice warm coat.

Now, you won't need all these things most of the year but yes, you might need them for a couple weeks to a month. Each year is so different--there've been years when I was Christmas shopping in 84 degree weather and others when I was bundled up. But most of the "cold" weather happens in Jan and Feb. Sometimes we do get in the teens then, as we did this past winter. Back in 2008 we had a cold snap in April and I needed a jacket then.

Happy moving!

You won't need the cashmere and heavy wool, but you'll definitely need the long sleeves and a coat.

Orlando is not a tropical island. It can get really cold in the winter, in the 30's. So yes keep your winter clothes.

Keep a few of your winter items, the lighter ones for down here which is all you'll need and the heavier ones for when you go back up north to visit. That way if we ever have another winter like we did this year (more than the occasional cold day here and there), you'll have at least one or two things to get ya through. I'd say it's safe to get rid of at least 75% of your winter garb since it's Orlando, Florida you're talking about here.
