I'm 21 and am starting a job near Dr. Phillips. I want to be in the center of the action in Orlando, and it seems that young professionals like me tend to congregate in the Lake Eola/Thornton Park area of downtown. The condo complexes in that area start in the 950ish range for 1 bed, which stretches my budget more than I'd like. What I'm interested in is the walkability of the area, so while places further out may be a bit cheaper, they don't appeal to me. Does anyone have any advice for either:

Where to find more budget friendly rentals that are still walkable to the action and in a safe location?

Areas that are less expensive, fun for a young guy like me, and within short distance of my job in Dr. Phillips?

Thanks for your help.

Seems a lot of people are getting jobs in Dr. Phillips these days. Maybe you should talk to this persona and the two of you could get a place together or find one more - the number of threads popping up these days about Dr. Phillips leads me to believe finding a third can't be that hard

Good suggestion, but having had roommates for the past four years in college I'm more inclined to live on my own at this point.

There's not going to be anything in your budget both safe and close to Dr. Philips. If Baldwin Park has studios you could try there but I'd hardly call it fun or walkable in the sense of Thorton Park. Its more for an older crowd. You're most likely going to have to get roommates unless you want to live in either a really old apartment, a really ****ty neighborhood or some compromise between the two. Most apartments start around 700 here and thats assuming you can get one with your history which I have no idea about. Its possible buts they're certainly not in the more walkable areas of downtown or close to Dr. Philips.

Not looking for lavish amenities or anything like that, just decent, safe, and in a great location.

Looks like The Grande is the cheapest downtown. Do a craigslist search on this place. It is definitely a party place and walkable to everything downtown. Not Lake Eola/Thornton area, but a short walk.

Look outside of just the condos. There are many options downtown, older apartments/condos, garage apartment, mother in law suites, etc that would fit into your price range and put you right into the middle of the action. Best way to search is to just walk around the area looking for rental signs. If your not in the area yet, look through Craigslist.

Good call on walking around, I was over there today and saw some stuff that wasn't listed online.
