If this is true then GM would be giving up the source of their best FWD cars. This could be a good thing if GM would be willing to take the money from the sale along with the savings from offloading two brands loosing money and re-invest that cash into their own product development. For once I'd like to see the car GM is capable of building on their own without a "focus group" and without bean counters.
GM almost unloaded them during the bankruptcy, but ended up being semi-forced to hold onto them. It would make sense for GM as they have been losing money and market share in Europe for years. China and the United States are the two largest and most important car markets on Earth and GM is number one in both of them (actually they are set to regain the number one spot globally after this quarter). I think it would be better to cut the losses and focus on the core markets than trying to reinvent Opel/Vauxhall, yet again.
I wish they would bring a holden commodore to the states to replace the G8 I was happy to see pontiac beginning to get their crap together, then they got lobotomized.....sad day. Too bad those silly Asians love Buick cars so much, I'd have much rather seen that wing get the axe
What was the last good Euro car brought to the states? As long as GM keeps Holden they should be fine.
For GM it would be the current Buick Regal which is based heavily on the Opel Insignia. In fact the entire Epsilon II platform was developed by Opel and is currently used on the Regal and LaCrosse and will also underpin the next gen Malibu.
