Today October 31 is Halloween. It will also be five years since my grandmother passed away after a long sickness. I also lost one of my uncles the week of Thanksgiving to lung cancer last year. I just want to know is anyone has had the experience of losing a loved one during a major holiday whether suddenly or to old age or to sickness.
My step-mother died from cancer just before Christmas the year before last. I wasn't expecting it at all. She never told anyone apparently how her body had rejected 1 of the 3 cancer treatments the doctors prescribed for her. So, while she successfully fought 2 of the cancers she had, the third one was going to kill her. I wish she had told me what her situation was so I could've seen her one last time while she was alive. Also, I'd bought a nice china plate from Chateau Chenonceaux in France for her which I never got to give to her. Her death still saddens me.
I'm sorry for other's losses. I lost my daddy the day after Christmas when I was 19. Natural causes and he didn't suffer, but I was being a selfish 19 year old at the time and didn't call to thank them for my present until the day after - that's how I found out he had just passed away. Still miss him.
This past Dec and Jan I think was probably the toughest on my family. We buried my uncle right after Xmas and my dad passed away 3 days later, on New Years, this year. My dad was my everything, my hero and my best friend. I still miss him.
Doesnt matter what time of year we lose our loved ones, we still miss them.

I lost one of my oldest sisters 2 days after Christmas. Fortunately for me, I don't allow myself to place significance on dates so 15 years later, I am able to enjoy Christmas without the sadness.
My dad died during Easter week. We had to wait to have a Mass for him the following day after Easter so it really got dragged on....My uncle died 9 days after my dad so it was a rough time during Eastertime. My kids have made it alot easier to deal with during Easter .....and I reflect on the good times.
