I have this in OT because many people traveling may not go to the travel section.
I just spoke to our travel agent. We are taking a cruise to Alaska ending up in British Columbia,Canada. We have applied for our passports and according to the 10 to 12 week processing time it should be here in time.
As most of you know they have "relaxed" the rule and if you can prove you applied for the passport and have a photo ID this should be fine for the countries that the new rule applies to.
However my travel agent pointed out most cruise lines require a passport to board the ship
Want to take a guess where our birth certificates are ??? With our application.
I am now in the process of trying to get certified copies of our BCs.
If you are taking a cruise and are in this situation I highly recommend you call your cruise line and see if they will require the BC.

It was my understanding that if you carried a photo id (drivers license) and the passport request papers you would be allowed to visit Canada and Mexico. I don’t know if this would be accepted on a cruise line however I was told that the crossing at borders they would honor the passport request papers.

I know someone whose passport took 14 weeks - so that 10-12 weeks waiting is a bunch of baloney. I would leave at least 4 months to get one.

yes at the "borders" but each cruise line has their own requirements, I would hate to find out when I tried to board the ship that I needed more than I brought

thanks rance according to the site I am being processed.
gardener 14 week would get ours in the middle of aug 2 weeks before we leave lol there might be some nail biting going on here in fla lol we may end up having to stay with Rance if they deny us boarding
