I found this site looking for info on relocation (as I'm sure many do). But I stayed for the political threads. Didn't even know there was a place left where intelligent people were actually talking about important stuff.

I found c-d when researching the safety of certain divey blues bars that I'd never been to before, in Chicago. Then I stumbled on the games/trivia forum. Being a sucker for that type of thing, I jumped right in. Then over time I discovered some of the other forums (travel, Aus & NZ, world, parenting) and joined in there sometimes too.
I'm 'met' some lovely people and - so far - haven't been in twubble with any mods.  |

I found it when I was looking to move in retirement and stayed because of the diversity of forum subjects. I have belonged to other forums but find that in many of them, especially in the ones you pay to belong to, everyone is like-minded/agrees with one another and that is boring. Also, there seems to be common sense rules in City-Data making them easier to remember. The only thing I don't like about City-Data is sub-forums because they dilute the conversation.

I found it shortly after I moved to Illinois. I started reading the Chicago Suburb forums ... I believe my first post was looking for a reputable mechanic.
