Beware, kids......'tis the ides of March!
Today's Tip is about getting the most out of a treadmill workout.

USING A TREADMILL

First of all, be sure to consult your doctor before starting any exercise program. If you feel dizzy, lightheaded or out of breath while exercising, stop immediately.
  • Try varying your program ~ treadmills can get boring.
  • Take it slowly. Begin with an easy workout, 3 times a week, and work your way up. If you try too hard too soon, you may strain a muscle or feel discouraged from trying to do too much too soon.
  • To burn fat, jog [or walk] at a moderate intensity. To improve your cardiovascular fitness and gain stamina, run at intervals between higher intensity and lower intensity. Quality is more important than quantity for cardiovascular fitness. (Basically, it's more valuable to train harder for somewhat shorter periods of time.)
  • To burn even more calories, alter the incline settings every 2 minutes to go up 3%, until you get to around 12-15%. Hold it until you feel ready to come back down, and then repeat the sequence coming down in percentage.
  • Don't do it every day. You'll lose interest and working out will no longer be fun. Do it every other day or 3 times a week.

Eh.. I'm like Aksarben, I don't need a treadmill, I get enough exercise walking to the refrigerator to get beer, and my arms get enough exercise operating the remote control...

Just kidding, I do walk a lot, and I lift weights.. no, not 12-packs of beer, real steel weights on a barbell.
