A very sad story to read about, and this is only one of many I’m sure. I’m angry about state agencies and their failure to monitor situations of this nature and why more people don’t call for investigations of abuse. I even hear people who state that they want less government and that government needs to stay out of their business. Well this is an example of what happens with less government agencies and having government stay out of our business. If not the government monitoring these issues then WHO will? Ask yourself WHO will stop this type of abuse on children? Sad that kids are abused and sad that agencies don’t have enough people to handle the workload of cases.
While I am certainly not against homeschooling, I do think lots of people out there use it as a cover up. It is possible these kids should be monitored and required to test a couple of times a year, just to make sure they are indeed receiving instruction rather than parents using home schooling to hide neglect and abuse.
I don't like government interference, but when a society can not govern itself, then it is inevitable. Unfortunately, the masses always have to pay for the stupidity of the few.
Just looking at that photo of him is enough to break your heart, such old eyes in a young child...
The problem with these child protection agencies is that they actually have very little public accountability. They do pretty much as they please and many are afraid to go up against them. I've had a run in with them myself. My oldest son is a special needs child. Every morning I would take him to school, one day his hair needed to be combed again so I took out my spray bottle, spritzed him, and combed his hair, while holding him by his jaw. His teacher, who no longer teaches, called the police. The cop asked me to demonstrate how I had held my son's jaw so I did. He then looked at the teacher and told her that his mother had done the same thing when he was a child and she needed to get a life. That's when all hell broke loose. She called social services and the investigations began!
They can take time for stupid stuff time for stupid stuff like this but they can't delve into true abuse cases? Give me a freaking break! If it was up to me not only would the parents be charged but the caseworkers as well. As for punishment, life in a dog cage sounds appropriate.
We need to monitor these agencies far more than we do. They use what amounts to terror tactics on parents, don't follow up when they need to, leave some children in horrible home situations and remove others on a whim. Who questions their behavior? Not many, that's for damn sure! But, we need to start!
That is a heartbreaking story. We can only be somewhat appeased when Karma catches up with those animals.
I am one who doesn't like government interference because most times they just mess things up. The government is only as good and moral and caring and smart and logical as the people who work for them. Either way there should have been more checks on this child.
I'm sure there are many many heartbreaking stories about child abuse and neglect. Too bad we can't spay and neuter people

Would say a lot of trouble in the end.
