Mornin’ all
Sending a prayer out to folks on the East coast who are being affected by Irene.

Today's Questions:

Are any of you, or people you know, in areas being affected by the hurricane?

If you’re in ‘hurricane alley’, have you ever had to evacuate?

Have you ever 'ridden out' a hurricane?

What is your most memorable weather experience?

Bonus Question:

Listening to NPR about the hurricane, I heard this:
Boisterous New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie demanded people "get the hell off the beach" in Asbury Park and said:
"You're done. Do not waste any more time working on your tan."

Which makes me ask:

What is the most absurd you have ever seen someone do, or not do, during a severe weather event?

Just For Fun

In honor of Popeye and Olive Oyl first kiss

Who was your ‘first kiss’?

Today in History:

1667 - Earliest recorded hurricane in U.S., Jamestown, Virginia

1894 - Congress passes Wilson-Gorman Tariff Act, which includes a graduated income tax later struck down by the Supreme Court
1955 - Guinness Book of World Records 1st published

What is the most absurd you have ever seen someone do, or not do, during a severe weather event?
Surfing as a hurricane was blowing in.

Today's Questions:

Not me, but a lot of my friends are.

What is your most memorable weather experience?
We've had high enough winds to uproot a few good size trees & peel back part of our tin roof!

Bonus Question:

Nothing that I can think of!

Today's Questions:
Are any of you, or people you know, in areas being affected by the hurricane? I have lots of C-D friends who are affected by it. I pray that they are all okay.

Have you ever 'ridden out' a hurricane? Nope.

What is your most memorable weather experience? On September 14, 2008, I was caught in a flash flood in the midst of a two-day, record-shattering deluge of rain here in NW Indiana. It was terrifying. I made it out unscathed that day, but it was the most frightening weather-related phenomenon I've ever seen. Even scarier than the tornado I saw once.

When I was in college, one time I saw a group of people streaking in the rain!

Hoping everyone in Irene's path stays safe this weekend.

Today's Questions:

Are any of you, or people you know, in areas being affected by the hurricane? I'm half a world away from Irene, though it is absolutely bucketing down with rain here in my part of Australia. I do have 'real life' friends in Maryland, Connecticut and New York who I hope are well prepared and will stay safe.

If you’re in ‘hurricane alley’, have you ever had to evacuate? N/A

Have you ever 'ridden out' a hurricane? Sort of. Back in 1991 my part of Sydney was struck by what was called a 'mini cyclone'. It hit with no real warning, was very ferocious, with huge hailstones followed by buckets of rain and high winds, but only affected a small part of the city. We lived in the second worst-hit street. It was pretty scary. The damage bill was $215 million. Our personal damage bill was only about $5,000 because we'd just put new windows in the house and they didn't break. The house next door had 127 panes of glass broken and three trees crashed through their roof.

What is your most memorable weather experience? See above!

People who go rock fishing when there are heavy seas and high winds. Definitely

Just For Fun

Who was your ‘first kiss’? Richard Bransby - no, not Richard Branson (although he grew up not far from me and is about the same age). Richard Bransby was 14, and I was 13.

Have a safe weekend everyone.

We are, in fact that's why I'm up right now at 3 a.m. I can feel the pressure building, so I decided I might as well get up. I can sleep in tomorrow morning anyway, it's not like I'm going hiking in the morning.

If you’re in ‘hurricane alley’, have you ever had to evacuate?

A few times when I was younger. We're not in any danger this time around--we'll just get lots of rain and maybe a few wind gusts. Please be careful, those of you in the direct path.

Have you ever 'ridden out' a hurricane?

Yep, I'm more likely to do that unless it really really looks bad.

What is your most memorable weather experience?

Hurricane Camille. We were back packing and had no radio or contact with the outside world, so we didn't know a storm was coming. Pretty intense experience when all you have is a tent.

Head to the beach to go surfing.

My first kiss came from a dog.

If you’re in ‘hurricane alley’, have you ever had to evacuate? No

Have you ever 'ridden out' a hurricane? All of them. Middle of state on high ground though.

What is your most memorable weather experience? Hurricane Charley

Bonus Question:

Listening to NPR about the hurricane, I heard this:
Boisterous New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie demanded people "get the hell off the beach" in Asbury Park and said:
"You're done. Do not waste any more time working on your tan."

What is the most absurd you have ever seen someone do, or not do, during a severe weather event? Ignore imminent danger of lightening during a thunderstorm staying in the water and on the beach.

Today's Questions:

Are any of you, or people you know, in areas being affected by the hurricane?
Not personally but there are lots of C-Ders affected to whom my heart goes out to, wishing you the strength to get through this.

Have you ever 'ridden out' a hurricane?
Thankfully no.

What is your most memorable weather experience?
The most recent one was the storm of March last year where hailstones pummeled & damaged cars, windows, roofs and rain came streaming down the inside walls of our house.

Just anyone out in strong winds. The chances of some loose debris hitting them is too high. Or the people who go to the shore when there's a tsunami alert, hoping to "see something" or take great pictures.

Just For Fun

In honor of Popeye and Olive Oyl first kiss

Who was your ‘first kiss’?
Paul, in Grade 4. It was a dare. His friends dared him to kiss me in the playground. I was mortified.
