U make an excellent point. People with a giving disposition are rarely motivated by reciprocity. However there is a whole lot of u scratch my back and I will scratch yours going on- I don't really think that is generosity at all

Default Take take take

I guess like anything.. we form and cultivate our abilities even our benevolence, over time.

The act of giving (not the object given) is the bigger lesson in love.
When you give, you hope to teach about giving.. its teaching love.
When the receiver hoards it in the storehouse but doesn't reciprocate
or pay it forward its like greed, or even like being miserable..cursing at the world "I want more".

When I was younger, I would always expect the best out of people. In no way am I perfect, but I would be nice to people and expect the same in return. It took me awhile to realize that that isn't always going to happen.

That hasn't stopped me from enjoying to make people happy. If you are my friend and I care about you, I will be very happy to see you smile or say thank you. I try to do the same when others give me something because I know that smile or simple thank you goes a long way.

Doing something for someone and expecting to be thanked for it is not really generosity at all, it is a need for appreciation and praise. To be a truly generous person acts must come from your heart with no need for thanks... everytime. Another sign of true generosity is to be able to give to another without telling anyone else what you did.
