Evenin’ y’all
Well, it’s time to get the weekend started and
how do we do that on CD?

Among other things, we answer . . .

Today's Questions:

What’s the one thing you love most about where you live?

What’s your least favorite thing about where you live?

Bonus Questions:
Now from the Valley of the Sun . . .

Do you go to yard, garage or any other sales that are held by your neighbors
or an organization?

If you do, have you ever seen an item that you felt was interesting or odd?

Have you ever bought an item that turned out to be worth a lot more than what
you paid for it?

Just for Fun
I was chatting earlier with a friend about ‘the good ole days’, so . . .

What’s do you miss about days gone by?

Today in History:

1868 - 14th Amendment ratified, grants citizenship to ex-slaves
1900 - Hamburger created by Louis Lassing in Connecticut
1914 - World War I began when Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia
1926 - U.S. and Panamanian pact about safeguard of Panama Canal
1932 - Battle between unemployed war veterans and federal troops, 4 die
1943 - President Franklin D. Roosevelt announces end of coffee rationing in U.S.
2011 - Astronomers identify a Trojan asteroid orbiting on the same path as the Earth
around the Sun; it poses no danger to Earth because it sits in a gravitational 'sweet spot'

Quote of the Day:

”If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in 5 years
there'd be a shortage of sand.”

Today's Questions:

What’s the one thing you love most about where you live?
Hard to pick one clear thing I love the most - equal #1 ... the weather suits me well (not cold very often), and the scenery is very pleasant.

What’s your least favorite thing about where you live?
Lack of night life (only a couple of decent restaurants, hardly any live music venues, very little ambience/atmosphere in town after dark).

Bonus Questions:
Now from the Valley of the Sun . . .

Do you go to yard, garage or any other sales that are held by your neighbors
or an organization?
Not these days (used to when first setting up home) - am no longer in acquisition stage!

If you do, have you ever seen an item that you felt was interesting or odd?

Have you ever bought an item that turned out to be worth a lot more than what
you paid for it?
Nothing that turned out to be super-valuable but I have bought a lot of lovely old (but not antique) timber furniture when others were getting into fibreglass and other 'more modern' materials. Cost me next to nothing and I still have them and they still look great today.

Just for Fun
I was chatting earlier with a friend about ‘the good ole days’, so . . .

What’s do you miss about days gone by?
This pertains more to Australia (my state anyway) than anywhere else, but I miss the great live music scene we had before poker (slot) machines were allowed in pubs and clubs. This changed the face of live music here, because slot machines were way more profitable than live music so many venues took their stages down and put machines in their place. It's a key reason why I love visiting the US - your live music scene is still alive and well, certainly in comparison with ours.

Thanks JJ.

Have a great weekend y'all!

Today's Questions:

What’s the one thing you love most about where you live?
My city? I have great neighbors, walking distance to several stores and restaurants and two great bus lines.
My metro area: Awesome weather, diversity of cultures, great diverse food options (will be doing a food tour in Thai Town a week from Saturday ), many tourist attractions, decent (not the best) mass transit
State: diversity of scenery

What’s your least favorite thing about where you live?
City: Boring, too far from places I enjoy visiting and work ...
Metro: Too much emphasis on cars and not enough for transit, too many folks that litter and deface public property
State: Taxes, COL and idiotic politicians

Bonus Questions:
Now from the Valley of the Sun . . .

Do you go to yard, garage or any other sales that are held by your neighbors
or an organization? Rarely ...

If you do, have you ever seen an item that you felt was interesting or odd? I once saw what appeared to be a garage sale in the Little Poland section of Toronto ... There were some very nice wedding dresses just hanging on the rack to be sold ... I found that quite odd ....

Have you ever bought an item that turned out to be worth a lot more than what
you paid for it? Nope ... Just a few nice clothing pieces that were worth more than .75 cents

Just for Fun
I was chatting earlier with a friend about ‘the good ole days’, so . . .

What’s do you miss about days gone by? It was a much more innocent time and children were allowed to actually enjoy childhood versus today's society when they are constantly being exposed to adult issues ... Also, folks were kinder and less rude ...

For me, I miss the time I had with my mom who passed 16 years ago ...

Today's Questions:

What’s the one thing you love most about where you live?
I live two blocks from the ocean where there is a wonderful boardwalk with an old fashioned amusement park. In ten minutes , I can be in the redwoods and in fifteen minutes, there are the rolling farms of Salinas.

What’s your least favorite thing about where you live? I live far away from my children which is why, by this time next week, I will be resettled on the East coast, near Boston. Sophie the cat & I will have a huge adjustment to make as I love everything about California, the lifestye, the people and the weather, but I am very very lonesome for my children.

Bonus Questions:
Now from the Valley of the Sun . . .

Do you go to yard, garage or any other sales that are held by your neighbors
or an organization? I never miss the library book sale and I try to go to the local arts & crafts shows.

If you do, have you ever seen an item that you felt was interesting or odd?

Have you ever bought an item that turned out to be worth a lot more than what
you paid for it? well, I still think that the painting I bought ten years ago (signed by 'Marc') is an undiscovered Chagall. LOL.

Just for Fun
I was chatting earlier with a friend about ‘the good ole days’, so . . .

What’s do you miss about days gone by? Growing up in the fifties and the early sixties.... it is hard to explain to anyone who did not share those times. There was a sense of innocence & of invulnerability. Anything was possible if you were a kid. You could be outside all day and no one would even think of bothering you. THere were trees to climb and there was all the land in the world. Kids played their own games together and no adults were ever around. We were our own tribe. It was truly a Halcyon time and I do not think it will ever be recreated. It is a time that is lost forever.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone

Now from the Valley of the Sun . . .

What’s do you miss about days gone by? The great grandparents and grandparents. Feeding the chickens and gathering eggs was one of my favorite things to do as a child. I liked going down to the well with my grandpa and bringing back water in four giant milk cans. I miss having to use the outhouse.

Today's Questions:

What’s the one thing you love most about where you live? I'll give you two: four seasons and proximity to the Indiana Dunes and the shore of Lake Michigan.
What’s your least favorite thing about where you live? Violence in a couple of nearby communities.

Bonus Questions:
Now from the Valley of the Sun . . .
Do you go to yard, garage or any other sales that are held by your neighbors
or an organization? Once in a while.
If you do, have you ever seen an item that you felt was interesting or odd? Yep; I've seen some pretty odd stuff. The most odd was a half-used bottle of Scope mouth wash. The seller actually had a price on it.
Have you ever bought an item that turned out to be worth a lot more than what
you paid for it? Nothing huge like you see on Antiques Roadshow. But everything I buy at rummage sales is worth more than I pay for it, or else I wouldn't buy it.

Just for Fun
I was chatting earlier with a friend about ‘the good ole days’, so . . .
What’s do you miss about days gone by? Life was a lot more pleasant before the vast majority of people decided they needed to be constantly connected via phone and texting. I absolutely hate that - the fact that people talk and text when they're around others in public. Turn the darned thing off already and interact in person with your fellow humans!

Quote of the Day:

there'd be a shortage of sand.” ~~ Milton Friedman Gee, ain't that the truth?

Today Is:
Hamburger DayI made din-din with some hamburger on Friday night.
The Last Saturday In July okay.........
Be Kind To Yourself Day I'll try! I'm fighting a cold so am trying to take good care of myself.

Happy weekend, everybody!
