We don't have much of this problem here since when they plow during the winter any big plants near the intersections get damaged by plows or snow and chemicals piled on them.

Guess that is one good thing about the winters!!

The few times I do run across it, I always try to stretch my neck to see around the plant. By the time I Can see anything the nose of the car is 1/2 out in the intersection...

I totally agree and can think of many examples. In addition to that there are so many poorly designed layouts- things like bus stops or pedestrian crossings positioned straight after a roundabout.

I'll let you peevers carry on with your thoughts on this matter because the POTD is;

Dangerous landscaping and poorly thought out road layouts.
We could go on forever about this one, couldn't we? In addition to what I wrote in CTGirl's thread, I'll offer up my peeve that the planners of huge parking lots such as those at shopping malls are NUTS! There's a huge lot at a strip mall and movie theatre area in my town that is very difficult to navigate. You can drive down a row and suddenly find youself at a dead end and have to turn around and try another row to find your way out. It is truly a maze, and I wonder what the heck the engineer was thinking when designing it. The islands throughout the lot have bushes and small trees planted on them, and when they get a little bigger the maze will be even more difficult to navigate because drivers won't be able to see around the corners and intersections. Idiots!

What genius thought it would be a great idea to plant trees on top of or to close to sewer lines? I had to cut down a really old tree because it destroyed the sewer line.

Where I live we all have septic tanks. My neighbor planted a willow tree when he built the house, approximately 10 feet from his septic tank. I'm amazed he hasnt had issues yet. I grew up with a willow in my backyard. I remember my dad having fits over our plumbing issues. He finally cut the tree down.

I'd like to add to my peeve that in addition to the shrubs, the track around the mall is almost a sharp turn. So in addition to TRYING to see around the shrubs, you have to somehow be able to see around the curve at the same time.

In reality, it's the property managements responsibility to keep the bushes and trees trimmed.
