I'll tell you what's also scary - When I was a kid, we used to PLAY with mercury! It used to be included in kids' chemistry sets. We would pour the mercury in the palm of our hand and watch it roll around in a bead. It was so cool. We would even break thermometers to get mercury to play with. Oh my, what we and our parents didn't know then.
The brochure which I cited in the OP also said that 1/2 teaspoon of mercury is enough to poison a 60-acre lake. And mercury never biodegrades or loses its toxicity.

Wow, that's incredible!! I knew mercury was toxic but didn't know it was that toxic!
Anyway, thanks for the tip Pam. I just thought of another one, I think I read somewhere that some of the newer, long-lasting light bulbs for your home may contain mercury. People should be careful about disposing of those too!
