The manufacturer claims that's not true but I've heard too many stories direct, not on the internet. After months or longer tucked away someplace it smells and tastes like always.

It is so true, the reason I gave twinkies up cause we had a box that had been hidden for years... I tasted one and it tasted so fresh and good, but when a family member saw me one I was told the box had to be nearly decade old Well it didn't kill me, so I guess I got stronger but I stopped eating twinkies, dingdongs and chocolate cupcakes... mostly all the "hotess products"

They contain hydrogenated oil, so you can only assume that it's not the healthiest product on the market. Although I still have food with it (hydrogenated oil), I'm trying to cut back and ultimately get rid of it in my diet - So no twinkie for me!

I am with u on the cutting back on the hydrogenated oil... I am cutting back, but I will have that non-dairy dry creamer for coffee... but I am optimistic- maybe in such small amounts it will preserve life

Looked up all the ingredients and this is what Wiki has:

Enriched wheat flour, sugar, corn syrup, niacin, water, high fructose corn syrup, vegetable and/or animal shortening – containing one or more of partially hydrogenated soybean, cottonseed and canola oil, and beef fat, dextrose, whole eggs, modified corn starch, cellulose gum, whey, leavenings (sodium acid pyrophosphate, baking soda, monocalcium phosphate), salt, cornstarch, corn flour, corn syrup, solids, mono and diglycerides, soy lecithin, polysorbate 60, dextrin, calcium caseinate, sodium stearoyl lactylate, wheat gluten, calcium sulphate, natural and artificial flavors, caramel color, yellow #5, red #40.

If it says "natural flavor" that means MSG. Wiki also has this:

In January 2012, Twinkie manufacturer Hostess filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.[3] Twinkie sales for the year ended December 25, 2011 were 36 million packages, down almost 2% from a year earlier.[3] Hostess said customers have migrated to healthier foods.[3] Hostess hopes to avoid liquidation and attract new investors to remain in business.

Ten of each and a Little Debbie or two, please.

Today the Twinkie Defense would mean something entirely different.
