I've just been multi-tasking, a dangerous thing for me to do!
Whilst typing this I've been on hold on the phone with a travel company.
Some of the 'musac' (I think that's the word) they play are enough to drive you to distraction. However I gritted my teeth and waited and then got everything sorted out.
So my dear ever expanding group of peevers, this gives me the idea for today's peeve, which is;
Music they play when you are on hold, or stuck in other places, like the elevator!
By the way- welcome to those who are relatively new to the thread and have been adding some great comments.
Used to hate the hold music, but now some of the places I call either play constant, loud advertising for themselves, or, like the other day, on one transfer there was NOTHING. Thought my phone went dead....
Don't like it when a voice comes on during the music to thank me for my patience, either!!
Actually, I think I just plain hate being on hold....................

That is often very annoying, especially when it has static and screeching. I hold the phone far enough away from the ear to deaden the sound but close enough to hear when someone answers. Tasmtairy mentioned putting the call on speaker and I'll do that next time on the house phone. The number one annoying thing about being put on hold is holding for all the long minutes and then a customer rep picks up and hangs up. That would be the dumb a$$ who assumes s/he is getting credit for taking lots of calls and not aware that management looking at call reports will show the amount of time spent on calls. Duh!

Music while on hold, then every 15 seconds a recording that keeps saying 'please wait...'. Good peeve!

Excellent peeve, Jezer! Yesterday I was on hold and the music was not only outdated but it was full of static and just awful to listen to. I was stuck listening to it for about 5 minutes.

You know - The person putting you on hold, should come back to you after a certain amount of time. You should not be listening to the song several times- before they respond to you. It's rude, it's crude - it's obnoxious!
There’s nothing worse than being stuck listening to music that you don’t like. To make it worse,,,,, when they turn the volume up higher just to make sure you hear it.
