My mom would refuse to put up a tree or start decorating before our b-days (mid-Dec) which seems like a waste of time to me. You have to take it all down 2 weeks later. I'm thinking Dec. 1st would be a good time (I haven't decorated much as an adult, haven't had the time, but now I think I can do it)...what about you? When do you start putting up the Christmas/Hanukkah/Winter celebration of your choice decorations?
We almost always start the first weekend of December. If it is needed, then we start with a few things after Thanksgiving. We usually do things step by step each weekend leading up to Christmas. Thanksgiving is totally separate from Christmas in my opinion. I rather have the decorations up later in January for the 12 days of Christmas then when the fall leaves are still blowing.
Before Thanksgiving we get the outdoor lights ready. We don't light them until everyone is leaving the Thanksgiving Celebration, then the timer pops on.
The holiday town scene( which takes so much time) is there on Thanksgiving so that the little ones get a chance to gaze........which they love to do.
The rest starts right after Thanksgiving when we go to the tree farm and chop a tree down which goes up about the 10th or so.
This year we will also go to NYC to see White Christmas at the Marquis Theater.....can't wait!
We do things early as we leave shortly after Christmas ....South.
