Hi, kids! Scroll on down for Today's Tip.

ALUMINUM FOIL TUBES

Have you ever tried to pull out and tear off a sheet of aluminum foil, only to have the entire roll pop out of the box? It happens to me often, and I find it very annoying!

Just today, I learned from a friend that I've been frustrated all these years for nothing. *ha* My friend told me that each box of aluminum foil has little tabs on the sides that you can push in to lock the tube in place. When you press in the tabs, they hold the tube enough so that you can easily unroll sheets. I had no idea the tabs were there all along. I checked the box I had in my pantry, and sure enough, there was a tab on each end of the box. I photographed one of the tabs for this post.

I suspect I'm not the only one who didn't know about the handy tabs.

I buy the no-name foil wrap - "Dey doan put dem tab tings onnem damned boxes!"

So I make like our intrepid hero in "Wordless Workshop" and stick an old wire coat hanger through the ends of the box and down the inside of the tube. I suppose I could probably just spend the extra Dinero and buy the brand name stuff, but I'm a cheap son of a ----!

(PS: Is it cold enough yet for me to post the recipe for Navy Tea?)

We buy some of both. But, I really don't recall seeing those tabs. I think I should wear them reading glasses more often.

Thanks for the bonus tip about the wire hanger, Ron.

You're not the only one, Pam. I didn't know about it, either, until my husband demonstrated to me how it works. Even if you buy the cheapie no-name brands, you could probably create your own tabs with scissors or a sharp knife.

I never knew that either Pam, and now my wife just said she learned about the tabs from a friend a few years ago. Didn't tell me...

What is Navy tea, never heard of it. Is there an Army Tea, Marine Tea, Airforce Tea. We don't want to be non-politcal correct you know...

Does it require salt water? I just drank a gallon of it a few days ago.

Yeah, that's always a problem living in SA...too damned much seawater everywhere.

Actually D, Navy Tea involves something far more pleasant.
