I remember we had a whole set of smiley mugs like this one (minus the flowers) back in the 70's, along with a cookie jar to match! Think we must have sold 'em all at a moving sale.

That's the type of things that just might be worth something as a collector item today. My wife collects cookie jars. Doubt any are valuable though.
In Germany we used to drink from those fancy coffee cups and when we moved to Canada we started to use coffee mugs. Over the years I have accumulated mugs given to me on birthdays,birth of my children,other occasions, and whenever I am in a china store I have to have a mug I collect them like other people collect Royal Doulton
