While China, India, Vietnam and southeast Asia region are extreme examples of scary crosswalks. I be curious to do a comparison of different parts of the world.
Remember drivers and pedestrians don't just cross paths with each other at traffic signals and well-marked road crossings. There are also many unmarked crosswalks, driveways, intersection of minor roads without traffic signals, roundabouts, parking lots, narrow streets/allys and shared zones where pedestrians are forced to walk close and often cross paths with drivers who would also need to drive close to pedestrians.
I would like to know whats your area's attitude towards pedestrians in these situations?
I know there are some parts of the world where drivers play Dr. Jekell and Mr Hyde depending on where they encountered the pedestrian and what they can get away with.
Is Switzerland really the polar opposite of China and the most pro-pedestrian right of way country in the world both in traffic rule, legal protection, and urban planning of walkable towns with pedestrian consideration in mind of planners and drivers alike? Or does the title belong to some other country such as Finland?
Interesting in this part of the world it appears while traffic may be chaotic but its incredible how drivers allow pedestrians including children to proceed safely and unimpeded even if they are approaching from all directions and not walkings in right angles on the path https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cS8YyDp47pc
Apparently, it shows traffic may still flow well while pedestrian rights are respected simultaneously.
