My innocent little three year old said "soccer ball" the other day while her little neighbor friends were over playing with her. One just turned 5, and his older sister is 10, who always tags along. We all know those families in which the parents think that if one child does something, the other must be included. Whatever. When my daughter said "soccer ball" the 10 year old said something profane that sounded similar. I was angry, of course, that she said this in front of three year old. I could either talk to her mother, to her, or avoid her hanging out with my child any more. I guess the best thing would be to talk to her mother, although I really don't think a 10 year old needs to be playing with my daughter all the time, but like I said, the siblings can't be separated.

I guess this is kind of like asking an advice columnist, but it's also sort of a poor testimony to the public schools. This girl's parents speak 100% Spanish in the home, so she is learning these things from school/friends, I'm sure. Some might say it's a reality, but it's a sad one, and I don't want my child having a mouth like that when she's 10. I really don't blame this girl--it's what she's heard. She said it so naturally, like she's used to talking like that. Ten years old? It's disgusting, and sad.

Just wanted to vent, thanks for listening.

I hear ya. It's pretty scary sometimes. Kids are growing up too soon. Kudos to you for caring.
