MOUNT CARMEL, Pa. (AP) -- A Pennsylvania woman who thought she was petting a neighbor's cat got a smelly surprise when it turned out to be a skunk. Not only did the skunk spray the woman before dawn Monday, but it ran into her Mount Carmel home.

That almost happened to me last night!!! I have 2 cats that are long haired black and white (mostly white on their tails). I opened the door last night to go out to get something from my car and noticed a fluffy tail there on the side of the porch, about 2 feet away (just the tip of the tail showing) and made the "get inside if you want to, kitty" noise (kissy noise) and the thing-that-was-not-a-cat took off running and I , realizing the difference, quickly stepped back inside the house.

If I had not had my glasses on, I might have actually tried to pat kitty or shoe him inside!

i have had a couple of run ins with skunks.
one brushed against my leg--like a cat would. it was dark out, but i could see the stripe--and I stood perfectly still!!!! oddly i have never been sprayed--but my brother was --lol
he had to have a tomato soup bath--funny for all of us--even if it wasnt for him.
