Recent polling shows that a large majority of Americans believe pot should be legalized. Let's see what you all think.

Marijuana Law Reform - NORML

If you are not sure and want to find literature on this topic, check out the link I posted above. Maybe if we legalize & tax cannibus it could turn this economy around. I personally get random tested for all drugs so they are all off the table. If I could smoke marijuana, I would. If given the choice to drink alcohol which is known to hurt a person physically or smoke cigarettes which are known to do the same, I'll smoke a joint and relax.

Here is a website from current & former police officers and their views on marijuana/drug control. I think you will find this site very interesting. Check it out.

LEAP - Cops Say

Here is one paragraph from the LEAP website.

After nearly four decades of fueling the U.S. policy of a war on drugs with over a trillion tax dollars and 37 million arrests for nonviolent drug offenses, our confined population has quadrupled making building prisons the fastest growing industry in the United States. Make it legal and tax it! Damn--that ought to raise at least 1/2 of the "bailout" money!

Up to a certain amount was once legal in Alaska...but now I think it's not. Anyway the illegal part seemed to never have caught on here. Or at least stopped anyone from smoking it. Except Sarah Palin...maybe...

Marijuana is a legal prescription..in a pill form called Marinol..They will never prescribe a joint..Same as they would never prescribe smoking opium to get the pain reliever Morphine..
Good article here:
Marinol - the Legal Medical Use for the Marijuana Plant (http://www.usdoj.gov/dea/ongoing/marinol.html - broken link)

Marijuana is the least worries of what's out there now.

I just hate the fact that I have to see the pharmacist just to get my cold medicine.

The trouble with making it legal is that there is very strong evidence to suggest that heavy, long-term usage can significantly increase the chances of developing a mental disorder such as paranoia or schitzophrenia (especially if it is used by people who's brains are still developing). I definately think it should be made legal for medical use though because then doctors would be able to prescribe it and the likelihood of it being abused is a lot less less than if you could just buy it from the corner shop.

Here's something else to consider, though. For as long as people have been studying the effects of smoking pot, has it been shown to cause lung cancer?

Yup, that's another thing. Smoking a joint has been proved to dump more tar into your lungs than an average cigarette because the smoke is held inside for longer in order to increase the buzz. The government is trying to dissuade people from taking up smoking tobacco because of the health implications so why would they want to legalize weed? It'd just be adding more fuel to the fire.

Does anyone seriously believe that if it were legal, anyone would be buying it from a taxable source? It can't be regulated, then it can't be taxed. Everyone would just grow their own. That's why it will never be legal "across the board".
