Rouses Point New York Sex Offender Law (to live, woman, kids)

Rouses Point, New York is considering joining the band wagon of those communities who believe that sex-offenders, regardless of their treatment status and/or the actual severity of their crime, should not be allowed to live within 1/4 mile of a school or other facility where children could be present. This flies in the face of the fact that the vast majority of sexual assaults perpetrated upon children are committed by family members and those close to the children who are victims.

The next laws will be to prevent sex-offenders from shopping at stores where parents bring their children, attending church services where there are children and a host of other absurd and meaningless laws that will never solve the problem.

I am not advocating that sexual crimes against children are not heinous and wrong, I mean to point out that in this day of fear-mongering and finger-pointing, Rouses Point is ignoring the causes of sexual abuse against children and scapegoating a certain group of people in order to let parents off the hook of educating their children and caring for them adequately. If more parents spent time with their children instead of plopping them in front of their electronic babysitters like the Tv and/or video games.

Any sensible parent wants the book thrown at sexual predators. Many work as close to children as they can. Don't futz around with numbers trying to make the family look the bad guy.

Who is classed as a "sex offender" is sometimes not what you'd consider a slavering pervert.

There's a case of a woman who was prosecuted for [it's a family web site; you guess.] on a fellow high school student. He was 17, she was 18.

Now, she's a "sex offender." It's almost impossible for her to just live.

In my view, part of the problem is that they let out some of these pedophiles, real nasty creeps, after only 4 - 5 years. That's justice, for scarring some poor kid for life? Seems like 20 - 30 years would be more appropriate.
