I was given a set of tests at a college psychology department and a few had to do with memory. Moderator cut: Excessive information - not needed.

Test number one:

They gave me six letters and numbers and I had to repeat them back to them in in this order: letters first in alphabetical order then numbers in numerical order. For example: he said: XPQ463 I had to remember this without writing it down and repeat back to him in order using the rules. The correct way to respond was PQX346 I did terribly and the interviewer acted like I was an idiot. I did fine with four numbers/letters, but much more than that I failed. How would you do?

Test Number two:

The interviewer told me a 3 minute story that had 10 points of information in it and then told me to immediately repeat back as many of the points of information as I could. He said the average person could remember 7 points of information. I only remembered four.

Am I an idiot?

You're not an idiot.

Did you close your eyes when listening and/or replying? I find that closing my eyes so I can "see" what was given me helps. It also removes visual distractions.

I remember a test years ago. Years ago! Wow! We were just married and living in our first apartment so it was about 1973. There was a test on TV that handed out numbers and you had to write them down. It started with a set of two numbers, three digits in each, like 385 and 037. You had to wait until they finished reading off the numbers then you wrote them down.

They kept increasing the number of digits in each set and the number of numbers as well.

I think I started having problems when there were six digits in five sets.

I'd wager I couldn't do that well today. In fact I can guarantee you I couldn't.

They say there are two ways to tell that you are getting old. The first is your memory fails you. The second is ... HMMM ... I can't remember what the second is.

I told my wife when we were dating that I suffer from CRS (Can't Remember S**t).
Now she swears it's contagious and I passed it on to her! lol

I believe that condition is closely related to CFS (Cerebral Flatulence Syndrome), is it not?

My spouse swears that Cerebral Flatulence Syndrome is caused by eating Brain Beans, which he and I both seem to consume with distressing frequency. I can find Bean-O at the pharmacy, but I don't know where they hide the Brain-O.

Toot-sweet!
