California plates.. It is against the law in California to text-message and talk on the cell phone while driving, and they will ticket you, and I believe that applies to driving on freeways/highways and surface streets. Maybe that gal figured she was in Arizona, where they won't ticket you for using the cell phone while driving, and decided to get her frustrations out! It's unfortunate that law makers have to put laws like that on the books just to encourage people to use simple common sense while driving.

I was driving home yesterday on Interstate 17, and I witnessed a rear end collision. Traffic came to a stop for some reason in one of the northbound lanes, but one driver didn't notice, and he/she slammed the brakes on and I saw tire smoke then the inevitable crash. I would be willing to bet the driver that caused the crash was on the cell phone and not paying attention to what was ahead of him/her.

Today while driving home from running several errands, I pull my truck up to the left lane of a busy intersection. This is one of those very busy and heavily traveled streets in town. Five lanes each of all four directions, three lanes go straight and two left turn lanes that are equipped with “left turn arrows”. Yeah,,,, left turn arrows always helps move traffic. Except when the idiot in front of you who seems to be more happy entering text into the cell phone while waiting for the green turn arrow to come on!

It was so obvious seeing the cell phone in her right hand while on the steering wheel and her left hand busy entering information. Well ,,,,, the light changes and the “green arrow” comes on ~ she continues to enter “text”. ,,,, a moment of time is allowed and I couldn’t help myself. BLOW the hell out of my horn and continue with it stuck in the ON condition while she is trying to figure out what’s happening. I noticed the other drivers in the cars to my right “laughing” and shacking their heads YES,,,,,

The young girl driving the car texting,,,,, gets the idea and starts to move forward into the left turn now,,,, but she can’t help herself ~ she has to stick her hand out the window and give me the famous hand signal to let me know that she isn’t happy any longer about the sound of my horn blowing.

I seldom use the horn unless it’s to alert someone of an unsafe and warning issue that is about to happen. However I couldn’t control my desire to honk to move it while she was texting on a cell phone. LOVED every minute of the blowing horn sound as did the other drivers waiting for her to move her car.

I only feel bad for her because I don't believe she understands that you don't drive in traffic and text message with the cell phone.

She needs to see the archive from last years tragedy, where the Metrolink operator out here was texting and the train collided head-on with another....because he didnt see a red light up ahead. His texting was more important.

I remember that, Livewire. It is definitely a very tragic example to discourage habitual cell phone users to devote 110% of their attention to what's ahead of them on the road while driving, and if they have to use the cell phone, PULL OFF THE ROAD!

I'm so road observant, I can't even lift a cell phone while I'm driving, let alone text.....
I learned all off this in SoCal.

I am always surprised at all the cell phone calls I get at work from customers 'having to' place an order for a product while on the cell phone in the car. I even told one lady who said she was in the car on the way to work... "hope your are not driving" she responds "I am but I am at a red light"

On a lesser, but still stupid, note I sat behind a young woman at a Wendy's one day while she asked someone on her cell phone what they wanted, then relayed it to the order taker. She must have had a few people she was ordering for because it took a while. At one point I heard the order taker ask, "Are you through with this order yet?"

Idiot.

I also saw a few days ago a young woman ahead of me answer her cell. She turned into the parking where I was going, pulled over to the side, and talked. As i was coming out of AAA I noticed she was just putting away the phone and drove off. I was impressed!
