My happy thing today is the opportunity to go far, far away for a few moments without ever leaving my chair.

There are days, particularly at this time of year, when my work and personal life begins to resemble my grandmother's pressure cooker. The push to get through the loooooong list of all that must be done pervades my consciousness, and even in my sleep, I'm thinking about the next task that must be tackled.

That's when I know that it's time for a mini-vacation in my head. I close my eyes, shut out all the chaos and tumult around me, and build up the mental picture of a peaceful, sunny afternoon on a mountainside. I imagine the trees and mountains and sky all around me; feel the cool breeze over my forehead; listen to the calls of birds and the murmur of the trees; smell the crisp, clear air scented with flowers; and for a few moments, I am swept away from the hurly-burly of ledger work, family debates, housework and all the rest. And fifteen minutes or so later, I return from my momentary vacation renewed and reinvigorated, ready to tackle it all once more.

What is your happy thing today, on this or any subject?

It is always nice to slip away - even if it is only in your mind! At first I thought you said "monetary vacations" and I thought "Yeah, my vacations would qualify as that - - money leaving my wallet!!"

Anyways, we live on a beautiful piece of property, but with the hecticness of life you don't always get the chance to notice it. After feeding the chickens a few days ago, I took a short walk and just sat down and enjoyed the view, and peace and quiet. It was great to just have that moment............And then I hear yells from the house - - - - "Mom, he won't quit bugging me!" Oh well, it was nice while it lasted!!

At the airport where I am based at is a place near the runway where I can park and watch the airplanes take off and land. I will park there, recline the seat and foget about life for a while.

I love being near the water. If there is a stream nearby, I go there to get away.

Good "happies", all! It is great to have a little escapism. I've enjoyed a few of those in recent months when I feel like a duck on water: look calm on top, but paddling hard underneath. Then you have a few moments of fun and forget your troubles for a while. It's like having a release valve.
