My sweet cairn terrier passed away a couple of years ago. She was 13 years old.
Although I loved her and she was the sweetest dog ever, I was the Queen and she was the Princess
I miss her every day.

That is why I have not gotten another dog. I loved having a pet in the house, wonderful companionship. There is freedom when there is not a pet, you can come and go as you please. Maybe one day when I am more settled and no longer travel (not sure that will ever happen).
I had to put my 11 yr old chihuahua down on Monday. My 3 weeks shy of turning 18yr old cat in March and a 17yr old cat in Feb. They ruled the house. I've still got a couple of house rulers and those that think they do!
I have one cat that I let in and out at least 20 times a day, got to love them.
Cats don't have owners..cats have slaves..i have 2 kitty masters that are part of feral abandoned colony living on property. They have me well trained and obedient..
I just saw this thread so bumped it. Now that my kids are long grown my dogs are my children. I have 2 spoiled Maltese that I adore. They provide so much joy, love and companionship. How about you?
I have a ferret that loves his 4-6 block leash walks every night, and I have no choice in the matter. If I don't take him for a walk, he first drags books out of the book shelves, plastic containers from the cupboards, and then looks up at me as if to say: If you don't take me for my leash walk tonite, you are going to have a big mess to clean up!
I've had 8 of these creatures over 28 years and if you're selfish, like I am, they're perfect pets, they sleep 20-22 hours a day, so they're out of your hair, so I need the exercise anyway, so one to one hour and a half leash walk, what a bargain!
Pets? Depending on the pet. Dogs are forever loyal. Cats are independent and can be let by themselves for a few days while you go on vacay. Just put out an extra litter box, extra dishes of food and water. And they make good weapons on the dark too when someone is breaking into your house. You can toss the cat right at them and they’ll scratch the bad guy like crazy.
I’ve had a couple of pet rats ini my day. Both were domesticated and I trained one of them.
