I was out with a friend and I thought I looked great but men kept hitting on her and completely ignored me! What does this mean? I may have not had a manicure, but I sure dressed up! But the guys didn't even take a glance at me and were all talking to her! I know I shouldn't have been upset(since they weren't hot at all), but you should have seen how they ignored me! I mean she looked wonderful, but does this mean that I am not as beautiful as I feel or think I am? Do men not really find me attractive? What is wrong with me?!
Well it's possible that it had nothing to do with your outward appearance or hers for that matter, it could have been how you were interacting, or not.
No, they just came up and started talking to her. There is nothing wrong with that(I mean she looked great and I understand the attention), it's just that they didn't even look at me. They held the door open for her, said "Nice to meet you," to her, had a long conversation to her like I wasn't even there, you know? I'm not saying they should have totally been hitting on me, but what in the world would make them not even just say hi or give a nice, friendly look. It was like I wasn't even there.

Aah, I see. Well that sucks. A couple of things though, just from reading what you've said from an impartial outsiders point of view.
Firstly did your friend actually include you in the conversation? Because I'm thinking if they were all over her and at no point did she make an effort to include you and just left you sitting around like a shag on a rock being ignored, well that's pretty rude of her for starters.
Secondly, when guys do that, ignore me like I'm not there (and granted it's not happened very often but it has happened.) I have a tendency to remind them I am actually there. Generally I put out my hand to shake hands and introduce myself. It tends to remind them that there are other people right there. It's possible they were nervous, or just lacking in a little of the social graces and like I said not a reflection on your attractiveness in comparison to hers at all. People (men in particular, don't get your panties in a bunch fellas, I've found it to be true.) sometimes have difficulty interacting in social situations and they get caught up in one thing and aren't good at multitasking. In other words they can cope with and are probably concentrating on keeping a conversation going with one woman but two is a little too difficult.
I'd maybe chalk it up to them being a little nervous and nothing to do with you or how you look.
Yeah, maybe they're the ones with a problem. There are a lot of things guys get clueless about. It just really hurts to be ignored like that. And it usually isn't like that for me either. It was so weird, I guess everyone will have their time. Thanks though, at least I'm not crazy for feeling crappy. I could tell my friend was a little shy about it, too, though.

Yeah, sometimes the "vibe" of the evening just isn't right. Don't let it get you down.
Just remember the golden rule, "nobody puts baby in the corner"
Cute! I shouldn't take that from them just some dumb guys. I just wonder if men just want a girl who has a manicure 24/7? Do they want a girl who is all primped out all the time? I looked nice and had good makeup on, my hands didn't look bad either..just wondering if that was a turn off because I heard a guy comment on hers.
Seriously if it was all about your manicure would you really want to talk to someone who was that shallow?
I know I wouldn't. (no to mention they'd get no joy out of my very average looking fingernails. )
Human interaction is a funny thing. Sometimes what you perceive to be a person's motivation for their behaviour might have absolutely nothing to do with what's going on in their head.
Attraction is part of all that goes on when people meet but it's not always physical attributes that people are attracted to. Talking to people, meeting new people, well sometimes I'd love to just be a fly on the wall watching and being able to hear what each person involved in a situation is actually thinking. It would be a real eye opener I reckon.
Might be they were just rude blokes, in which case you've lost nothing really, might be they were stuck in a particular mind set and unable to think outside of it, could be they were nervous, could be you or your girlfriend was giving off a particular vibe they were picking up on.
It blows when it happens but don't let it get you down. It's one night out of your life. I say just chalk it up to an off night and look forward to a better night out in the future.
