Check payments that don't clear, thus throwing off your own integrity. That is to say that someone pays you with a check, has paid you with a check for several years without incident and then suddenly, their check bounces, throwing off all the checks you write assuming it was good to begin with.

I had a part time job where this happened on a regular basis with our paychecks. One of my coworkers actually was happy this would happen as he would write 5 or 6 checks that he new would bounce once the paycheck bounced. The company would make good on the paycheck and reimburse him for all of his overdraft fees. Then he would talk his bank into waiving the overdraft fees since it was not his fault. He was making an extra 75 dollars a week doing this.

We have a loan on a truck for the next two years. In the payment schedule we have the address of the bank on a lick & paste. Well the lick and paste aparently is so old, it doesn't stick on the envelope and falls of during the mailing. So the check never arrives and I got to make up for it at least 5 times in the past!!! WtH did the original check go????

I have been pretty lucky with that. I think someone wrote a check to us once that bounced, but it was someone we knew, and it was fixed immediately. Luckily it didn't cause us to bounce any ourselves.

The businesses writing bad checks to their employees really irks me. I would have a hard time with that. Where I work, we always make sure payroll is met and on time. There is another business in my complex that the employees are always having to ASK if they can get their check, and the owner sometimes doesn't come in on payday, and acts like it is no big deal... I guess I feel like these people are working for you, the least you owe them is to know that they can get their check on time. They have bills to pay and mouths to feed, too.

In this time and place with the new electronic banking there is no reason for checks not clearing in a timely manner. If you or I write a check with insufficient funds, we go to see the judge and jail for a crime in our state.
