i'm definitely one of those people that uses a product till it craps
Yep. I'm that way with cars. Buy'em new, take good care of them, get at least 15 years and 200k miles out of them.
I still have hand tools my uncle gave me over 45 years ago, wedding gifts from 35 years ago, good shoes I've had for 20 years, etc. Never apologize for buying quality and taking care of it.

i use a lot of saws.>> if a saw gets old and unsafe to use then i will get a new one. don't want to loose my hands or fingers!! but when it comes to regular stuff i use it till it craps.
A girlfriend (who is always broke) always yells at me about driving a 15 year old car with 150K miles whenever I tell her that I had to replace something like the radiator. The way I figure it, I'd much rather pay a couple hundred in repair bills once a year than a couple hundred every month for a car loan.
The only thing I really don't skimp on is shoes. I used to wear them for as long as possible, but noticed that any time I wore them past 3-4 months, I'd start having foot and knee problems after the foam packed out under the heel. Now my shoes get replaced on a regular basis, and I spend $15/month on shoes instead of $30/month on Celebrex.
I'm drinking my coffee out of a mug that I bought in August, 1968. I was heading off to college and this was a very intentional, symbolic purchase, my first "household" item as I moved toward independent adulthood. It's been through more than 25 moves and has one very tiny chip on the rim. So yeah, I tend to keep things for a long time.
I've got tons of things that are older than my 0 year old. It's the only way to go in this economy for me!!
