SEATTLE - A window washer plunged eight stories down the side of a building Thursday in downtown Seattle, but was stopped by a safety rope just inches before hitting the ground, officials and witnesses said.
Seattle Fire Department spokeswoman Dana Vander Houwen said the rope saved the man's life by catching at the second story and softening the impact when the man reached the pavement below. His only injury was a broken little finger.

I'd like to believe his guardian angel protected him from the fall.

Falling window washer's boss: 'The systems worked' | KOMO News - Seattle, Washington | News
The employer of a window washer who survived an eight-story plunge from a downtown building says he's thankful the safety systems worked, saving the worker's life.
"It couldn't have been any closer, so ... everything else aside, I'm 100 percent thankful," says Kevin Hansen, who owns window-washing company Morris-Hansen Enterprises.

Lozada was expected to return to work today - but decided he was simply too sore.
His boss tells us he's now scheduled to be back on the job on Monday.

Uhm, I'm sorry, but no, the system did not "work". The system failed to prevent the man from actually falling 8 friggin stories! It was PURE luck that the mechanism clicked into place at the last possible second.
And I'm sorry, but they couldn't have given the man some paid time off to recuperate, even if just from the trauma alone? Yeesh!
