I'm not going to complain about the relative theoretical merits of capitalism as a system. I've read Smith, Mises and Rand. And I'm not going to challenge them.

But on a personal level. I just feel like my gentle personality is not fit for the dog eat dog world of competitive capitalism. And I'm just not fit to submit to the authority of the boss. I guess its survival of the fittest and Darwin will ruthlessly root out my genes. Any advice for me?

Go into public service or academia where profit isn't the motive.

Social services is an option. Social worker, mentoring, job coaching, working with the developmentally disabled, senior centers, daycare, etc. Mediocre pay but little competition.

I think there are many public service jobs that also become just as demanding as those dog eat dog civilian counterparts are; different employer but the same deadlines, demands and requirements of working elsewhere. I’ve never worked for a company that didn’t have benchmarks, timelines, and safety requirements to meet. My brother in law works for a civil service group and they as well have the similar requirements and benchmarks in their group, government isn’t always the easy route to take.

Capitalism isn't always that great. I'd like to work in France

Your gentle personality is gonna get squashed like a bug unless you submit to your boss.....even if you worked at Burger King. Life is just like that.

If you truly had a "gentle personality" submitting to authority wouldn't be a problem for you. My guess is you aren't as "gentle" as you think and your boss isn't very pleased with your work.

I'm betting that about 15 weeks of Infantry OSUT training at Ft. Benning would work that out of him.
