First and foremost.....Happy canada day to all here.
My name's Rishi and I am from India.I have taken admission in Algonquin college and would be studying for 1 year.My main issue is housing and food.We have a homestay program(which is an appealing idea) but the cost is 800$/mo which would include 3 meals.I had a word with a few of my canadian buddies and they stated that the price was a tad too high and I can get better deals for the price!
I want to stay with a canadian as I would love to understand the culture and broaden my horizon.
How much would you assume it would cost on a monthly basis for food expenses assuming its 2 meals a day.....in a city like ottawa?
Would 400 dollars suffice?
Rent(as I check in craigslist) can be around 350-400$
So should I go for the family homestay plan of 800$ or should I consider better deals?
Hi Rishi. Sure, it's possible to live on $400 a month for food, but you sure won't be eating like royalty to say the least. Why don't you get your Canadian friends to help you find a better deal?
If you cook, $400 per month is enough, no problem.
If you eat out, you will survive but won't eat well.
