I'm a Jew, (and this is close to heresy), but I've always thought the greeks and romans had the right idea with multiple gods. I mean, how on earth can one being keep track of everything? I always liked Poseidon (watch the Little Mermaid). If he controlled/prevented tsunamis and/or massive flooding, that would be a good sign.
A lot of what they believed doesn't fit in with physics, such as the world being flat. Proof requires NASA revealing the conspiracies we know are wrong, and that both the Sun and Moon are chariots.

It was always Venus which is my favorite deity. I always felt that Venus wasn't as vindictive as her counterpart Aphrodite but I could be wrong. That is just my impression of her.

I doubt it.
But they captivated me as a kid. By the time I was 13 I read every book our city's library had on Greek, Roman and Norse mythology.
