I don't watch the show anymore. It was too upsetting to me to see how some of these moms treat their children and force them to do something they don't like. It's the mother's dream, not the child's. By the looks of some of the moms, they need to take all this money they're spending on the child's pageants and take care of themselves.
I didn't want to go there, but in most cases the mom's look like absolute train wrecks at these things. I would have expected people at a "beauty" pageant to be a little more put together. They just look unkempt and haggard.

What about parents who put there kids in Tball? or karate? or swimming lessons, or a 100 other things at a young age? is that bad for them? Making your kid stand in the hot sun at a baseball game for an hour when hes doesnt want to is what? character building?
If the kids grow up and decide its not for them, at least they tried something. What if they like it?
How many kids were signed up for all sorts of things this summer because mom and dad wanted to do it, and NOT because the kid did?
id love to see the reality show about old fat dads trying to live dreams through their 8 yr olds baseball glories. Bet there would be alot of people complaining about that to.
At the very least these parents are taking an interest in their kids, and encouraging them to do something(other than seeing who can hold the couch down longer in front of the tv), which might just translate into making that kid a better person someday.

a1sspiked, if you feel those things should be discussed, and people should consider whether or not kids should have to endure them, why not set up a topic for it?

This topic is specifically about pageants.

Agreed - good post.

The worst part for me is the money spent. These parents need a basic math class here. So many times the moms say stuff like, "This is earning her savings bonds towards college!" Then mom goes and spends $1500 on a dress, $300 on hair and makeup, and $100/hour on a pageant coach to "win" a $300 savings bond.

These kids aren't going to be able to afford to go to college, but they're going to have some nice headshots to look at in 10 or 15 years...I mean really--get your priorities straight!
