Just the fact that you have "parlors" makes me want to come over and take a look. And I wouldn't care how messy they are. (I take it those parlors are in MI and not Orange County. Because I know both places and the number of "parlors" in O.C. is distressingly low. )

Well between four kids and two dogs, our house frequently looks like Berlin after WWII. It's disgusting and I hate it.

I suppose it's like my mom used to say, "you can either have a nice house and nice things OR you can have kids and pets, but not both"...

Personally, when I was single, my mantra came from the movie Ferris Beuller's day off. When Ferris described his friend Cameron's house as being like a museum. Very beautiful, very cold, and you're not allowed to touch anything.

Sadly, this philosophy doesn't work very well with children....

I am both a neat freak & a clean freak! it causes great stress to say the least in a home with a 4yr old and an 8 yr old....
I cant' stand anything out of place but have come to realize that is just not realistic in a home with children. I try not to nag too much, but sometimes, the papers, toys, blankets on the floor,etc... just send me over the edge!
Our kids do put their clothes in the hamper and our oldest does have to make her bed during the Summer all the time and during school she has to do it on the weekends.
We try to limit the toys to the playroom and their bedrooms but they somehow always seem to be streaming out everywhere else in the house, especially on rainy days!

Everyone always told me "oh when you have kids, you will change", well, I haven't ,as a matter of fact, it has gotten worse. I know that people say it doesn't matter what your house looks like, but I think it does. I think maybe as a SAHM that I put extra pressure on myself to be sure my house is always both clean & neat because what else do I do right? that is "my job" I guess. Just as if I were working outside of the home, I want to be sure I am doing "my job".... I don't know, but for me, it is a diffcult balance and I try every day to remind myself that it isn't THAT important and it really doesn't matter if there is a dish in the sink overnight or if the playroom isn't picked up every night before we go to bed... it is hard though.
I have been like this since I was a teenager, my bedroom was never messy, everything was always neat & clean and not because my mom nagged me about it, it's just how I liked it...

Oh well, my kids certainly don't seem stressed by me, so it can't be that bad! hehehehe...
