Things have changed for the better for the poor children who's bladders have not caught up with thier size.
My poor brother had to sit on the front porch with his dirty sheet and mattress and let all the neighbors know he wet the bed, not to mention being called lazy and the spanking. This was in the fifties.
Children grow out of it, best to treat it like its no big deal.
Alexander, How awful for your brother. I can imagine his shame over something he had no control over. As a former bedwetter, trust me, the shame is there whether anyone makes a bid deal or not. I grew up in the 60's and lucky for me, my mom was WAY ahead of her time. After having me checked by a doctor for physical problems and determining I was fine, we just dealt with it.
but being cut off from drinks after a certain time while my brothers could have a drink.. well it just highlighted my problem and it didn't work so good.
I have an 8 year old girl that still wets the bed every night. It isn't like she stopped doing it and started again, she has never stopped doing it. My husband and I could wake her up 3 times a night and she would never remember the event. We would have nice conversations during that time too. She is sleeping too hard.
We have been to the doctor and have had an ultra sound on her bladder, we have done a sleep study. Neither has shown anything yet, but she does snor like a bear and has tonsils that are huge which can cause sleep apnia.
We don't give her a bad time about this and she wants to stop wetting the bed in the worst way. Not being able to go for sleep overs or when a friend comes over she is off to hide her pull ups. Its very hard for her. We just keep trying to find the root of the problem. I don't really want to give her medication because in my opinion it wont solve the problem. If you stop taking the meds you just go back to where you were.
So we go back for another sleep study in 3 weeks so maybe they will figure see that she has sleep apnia and maybe get her tonsils out.
So don't feel bad if your 4 year old isn't getting thru the nights.
