That's a GOOD thing. It will slow the population growth and lower the numbers in public schools, not to mention ease the frenzy of over-reacting and helicopter parents.

It should also limit child abuse and neglect.

People should never have children if they don't want them or can't afford them, if they lack the emotional ability to raise them.

There really is no excuse for child abuse and neglect. Not everyone is cut out for children.

Yeah. But it's the wrong people who aren't breeding.

I wish that were the way it worked, but schools are expensive to run, so communities are much more likely to shut down schools with low enrollment. The remaining schools end up over-crowded and transportation costs soar, unless, as some enterprising districts are doing, they charge for busing. As for the helicopter parents, there may be fewer of them, but they're just as intense.

As for the topic of childlessness, in our little block of eight houses, there are two households of forty-something single women and two older married couples without children. It's fascinating to me that the single women would choose to live in a suburban, family-oriented neighborhood. Far be it to tell them where to live, but I often wonder what would draw them to a place like this. We very rarely even see them, and I've never noticed them socializing with anybody else on the block.

Maybe they will go back to the one room schoolhouses. A move forward may have to be a move backward.

The education industry has become such a monster it needs an overhaul anyway. On the top of their list is money, at the bottom is real education.

Exactly. What's really sad is once a year I have to renew my fishing license.

Not sure why this report would be posted in the parenting thread.

Did you read the article?

Quote:
The likelihood that a woman without a high school diploma will be childless after 40 has increased 66 percent since 1994.
That's probably a good thing.

I hate when people use that term....ugh.

Being childfree has become a valid and respected choice. It improves the quality of life for everyone involved.

I did not read the article (sorry, slow connection), but did it state that statistically, the more intelligent the couple the more likely they are to be childfree? Gotta love it.

20yrsinBranson
blissfully childfree by choice
