I don't know what is going on with him. Whenever the TV is on he puts it on a channel called the weather network which is weather 24/7. I don't understand his fascination with this when he could be watching cartoons.
Anyone else's 7 year old have a fascination with a particular topic?

My son will be 6 soon and he tends to get fascinated with "odd" things from time to time. He did have a brief fascination with the weather. We chalked it up to the fact that my wife and I check the weather report at least once a day. He liked to watch it and see if there was going to be a storm and he thought the radar map was cool. He used to ask us where on the map our house was, where his grandparents homes were, etc. Can't say he ever chose to watch it constantly, but he would turn it on and watch for 10 minutes and figure out what the weather was going to be at everyone's home.

Assuming he doesn't have some unnatural fear of storms or something, I wouldn't let it bother me. At least he might learn something from watching the weather channel.

Maybe he's a meteorologist in the making. Good for him! It's better than watching Spongebob all day. Although we do love Spongebob at our house, all ages. Whatever the reason, it might just be a phase. Sometimes my son likes watching the Food Network, sometimes the Weather Channel, sometimes the Discovery Channel, or Animal Planet....he does know how to check the radar on our computer, and loves watching for storms. They are growing up.

Is there background music? Maybe that's what he likes and is listening to.

Boring to you maybe, but obviously not to him. I think it's kind of cool. And you'll be one proud mama when he's the weatherman on the Today Show saying,(when he gets his People Magazine cover) "I owe it all to Mom who suffered through endless hours of The Weather Channel so I could be standing where I am today: On national TV with a $3,000,000. a year contract to be America's Weatherman. Thanks Mom! You're the best!"

Well there is always something worse they could be watching. At least it's something educational in a way. My daughter sits and watches cartoons all day unless she is outside. That is annoying.

Based on the responses I guess there is nothing wrong with it. I just didn't think a 7 year old boy would be so interested in something so adult. I'm sure the demographics for this particular channel are not ages 7-12 for example.
He has done alot of cute things in the past. I didn't think they were cute at the time. He sucked on a receiving blanket for naps, bedtime, or just because for 6 years!!!! I could not get him off that blanket. He outgrew it himself.

LOL, I don't think you can compare sucking on a blanket to watching the Weather Channel. It sounds like he is genuinely interested in the weather. Why not encourage him, and take him to the library and get books about the weather, and also show him how to check your local radar online? My son checks out our radar on intellicast.com. I have it on a shortcut on our desktop so it loads automatically for him when he clicks it.
