My son went on a trip with the 5th grade class and there were 4 boys in the room. One of the boys in my son's room was an only child. I have met him and he is a nice, polite boy and he is well liked by the other kids.
When my son came home from the trip he told me "D's mother needs to have another child so she has something to do." Apparently D was unable to wrap himself in a towel after his shower because at home his mother wraps him in a towel after his shower. He also had trouble at meals because his mom always helps him order. I am apparently the typical mother of 3 because I tell my kids: "Hurry up and order. It's McDonalds, the menu is the same all over the country."
I thought it was cute video and true in many ways.
I thought the video was cute. As a parent of an only child I could totally relate to what he was saying. I think when you have one child it is easier and we do involve our son in decision making. At times we are a like a team. We have been able to give him more experiences than most because it is simply cheaper to do so. Years ago when my son had to have surgery the male nurse taking care of him was making small talk to calm my son's nerves. He asked him if he liked to go on vacations. My son said yes and the proceeded to tell him all the places he has gone. It was pretty funny because the nurse said, geez...you are more well traveled than I am! We mostly chose to have only one for financial reasons and secondly medical reasons. Not everyone can have more than one. My son says he is not lonely and would prefer not to have any siblings. When he was younger he used to ask us for an older brother which we thought was kind of funny. As time as gone on though, I worry about things like when my husband and I are older, our son will have no one to share the burden with. Only children are common in my family so we don't feel like we are not the norm.

California is too crowded. Why people find even faster population growth rates as ideal is beyond me.
